"Uh....should your guitar be making that noise.......?

SUMMARY - played a couple of times, all ages shows when possible, for the 'kids', sadly the 'kids' don't care.

RADIO FREE MUSIC Presentations; 4/9/04 Beat Bar DUNDEE - "the running order will be decided on the night based on each band's average height. Payment of the entry fee establishes a contract which allows DNA/Polygraph tests to be taken, this WILL affect your personal freedom but does not affect your statutory rights" - with hetero and elysium, elysium rocked and had a very tall bass player, hetero did one song that was like ATV, I am very fond of their drummer. bizzarely reviewed by seonaid masson in the daily record on 10/9/04, she was very kind but I assume hasn't worked since. 18/9/04 Bar Code PERTH with earth and lipsick, half of lipsick didn't turn up and the other half couldn't perform without stereo, we had played with lipsick before and thought they were great. 10/10/04 Balcony Bar DUNDEE "you're not a proper band, you don't have a proper drumkit and you don't play guitar properly, people like you spoil things for everybody else who enjoy decent music played well like you get in the charts and in quality magazines and on mtv and the radio, you spoil it for everyone and you should be ashamed but won't be - psychedelic trio indeed" - with amy hits the stratosphere, thanksgiving and half of lipsick, this is reviewed somewhere on the worldwideweb, twice I think, the venue's name had been changed to something else but I can't remember what. 30/10/04 Phillip Hall CARNOUSTIE with maxwell's dead and another band whose name I can't remember, their average ages were about 15 and they played punk rock very well.

We also played at either Dundee or Abertay University on 8/10/04, which kind of sucked and Dr Drake's in ABERDEEN on 27/11/04 which was pretty cool.

We made enough money to buy some pretty arcane recording equipment and are looking at recording some lo-fi hi-fi with the pretty arcane Peter MacMillan.

COMMUNICATION 19/1/05 - played at the bongo club in EDINBURGH on 17/1/05, sample dialogue - "this is a great place, the bands can play as loud as they want.......can you turn the guitars down please?......I like a bit of feedback......you can't have that feedback through the pa.....don't worry you'll get paid......there's no money we can't pay you.....OFF!!.....if you want my advice...." - no, thank you, I don't think we do. Mark taped the show, we may put it on downloads, we played pretty well and retrospectively there is some amusement to be found in the guitars and vocals being turned up and down mid-song, the drum sound throughout is beautiful.

Current listening; the carter family (best of), trash box (garage/punk box set), velvet underground (live at max's), the dillards (live!!! almost!!!), ramones (it's alive), the hunches (hobo sunrise).

Selected reading; on the road with the ramones - monte a melnick and frank meyer, tragically i was an only twin - peter cook, hell to pay - george p pelecanos, helen and desire - alexander trocchi, captain trips, the life and fast times of jerry garcia - sandy troy.

COMMUNICATION 12/2/05 - played at the full moon club at bannermans in EDINBURGH on 3/2/05, I was beginning to dislike the town due to the above and previous experiences there, mostly related to promoters, volume and not trying to be liked. But not tonight. It was suggested that we turn the guitars down but we didn't and still no-one interfered with our sound, we turned up and played (our end of the bargain), they let us perform as we would normally do and left us alone to do it without advising us on how we could improve our chances in a competetive field (their end of the bargain). A cool, tolerant venue with very acceptable work practices, with a couple of bands and a brace of poets - of course there was no money involved or advertising but we have come to expect that as anarchy becomes capitalism.

I've started a petition to demand that the United Nations declare war on america if they, and their fascist axis of commercial enterprise, invade another non-white country.

There has been some talk of the wildhouse putting out a live album through deadearnest, this may come off if everyone involved is talking the same language and the recording is representative of what we do. And has a nice cover.

We have kind of started recording with Peter MacMillan, half a version of WHACKER so far, and it should be in all major retailers when it's done, working title - a child's winter memory. We are hoping to hook up with asda/k-mart as we have similar views on the tax-free employment of illegal immigrants and the low, low overheads that this allows. And we intend releasing it with about 9 tracks, then re-releasing it with a 'special edition' extra track followed by a further re-release with more (surprise hit single or b-sides or live or just plain poorer quality) tracks and possibly collector's edition 'enhanced' videos. So, if you like our band, don't buy our records. Until much later on when you can get your money's worth.

Current listening; screaming trees (anthology), buck owens (best of vol 2), the misunderstood (before the dream faded), hendrix (1st album), chocolate watch band (the inner mystique), buzzcocks (ua singles 1-4) and an excellent tape by the fantastic dundee band captain trips.

Selected reading; a christmas memory - truman capote, all the rage - ian mclagan, our band could be your life - michael azerrad, right as rain - george p pelecanos, waiting for the sun - barney hoskins.

COMMUNICATION 7/4/05 - Bad things have happened but mustn't grumble - Played at the excellent but oddly shaped Vale in Glasgow on 5/3/05, my amp was next to my head so I couldn't hear Sheila much, I tried to keep time by sight and failed, I sounded great. All in all, however, it was pretty cool and we met some pretty cool people.

We did some recording on 27/2/05, just the drums and guitars for a fairly long song and a couple of spoken word pieces to tap into the wealthy Henry Rollins demographic, I'm almost certain that it's what the kids are waiting for.

Their people have been speaking to our people and I have been advised that the wildhouse shows on 16/4/05 and 7/5/05 are being recorded by deadearnest with, presumably, the vocals being re-recorded, in-key, by someone else, at a later date. For the cover, we're thinking along the lines of either 'humorous' sexism or the horse nebula.

Current listening; dinosaur jr (yr living all over me), mercury rev (yerself is steam), doug dillard (banjo album), os mutantes (1st album), electric prunes (lost dreams), dead meadow (shivering king and others), josef k (only fun in town).

Selected reading; native tongue- carl hiaasen, creation records story - david cavanagh, requiem for a dream - hubert selby jr, love all the people - bill hicks, eyewitness to vietnam - peter scholl-latour.

C0MMUNICATION 24/8/05 - Let's not keep this too regular.

Predictably 16/4 and 17/5 were not recorded, we tried to record 17/5 ourselves on 4-track but came unstuck, the resulting 40 minutes of silence, however, were a beautiful sonnet to freedom of speech, vive le silence.

Scrapped the recordings we did with Peter MacMillan and have issued a fatwa on him, Sheila and I recorded a song of hers called 'Harpo' but refuse to acknowledge it as a wildhouse song since Peter isn't on it, we have also issued a fatwa on him. Did some further recording with a nice fellow called Trevor and have finished 'Whacker', 'Destroyed' and 'Handgun'. We pretty much recorded everything live with feedback overdubs and Trevor never batted an eye, which was very cool.

Played at the Vale in Glasgow to critical acclaim and a standing ovation on 11/6/05, predictably no money, but unpredictably no shit, good soundman and nice people, it's the tops pop kids! We also played in Falkirk on 11/8/05. Sadly the main band, Mexican Death Metal band, Prohibitory, got stuck in Brescia in Italy and couldn't make it, I was very impressed that they had toured with Deicide, practically my favourite band of the ninties. Anyway, with no apparent organisation going on, we just set up and played, said thank you and went home. Very nice people, very odd venue. Peter had just got a new amp and decided to see how loud it could go, a funny light kept coming on and disturbed him. He ploughed on regardless.

Current listening; count 5 (best of), orange juice (glasgow school), pink floyd (london 66-67), cramps (how to make a monster), the fall (totale's turns), pavement (crooked rain crooked rain), beastie boys (paul's boutique), deus (wcs), velvet underground (white light, white heat) and not the radio.

Selected reading; the secret life of oscar wilde - neil mckenna, the sweet forever - george p pelecanos, dream catcher - margaret a salinger, the city and the pillar - gore vidal, give me my father's body - kenn harper, in search of jd salinger - ian hamilton

COMMUNICATION - 7/8/06 - What a difference a year makes.

Scrapped the recordings with Trevor as well, we were well on the way to completing some pretty good stuff but he moved on and it never got finished, we were going to record with a fellow called Robin but he never turned up, and we were going to record at a studio near the enchanting metropolis of Blairgowrie, but this too was cancelled and they never got back to us, at all! And we were supposed to play at the 13th note in glasgow and had to cancel due to projectile vomiting (I said that we should go ahead and pretend that it was part of 'the show', just like blackie lawless would have, but no, I was voted down, again - democracy is our enemy, absolute power is our friend).

On 22/1/06 we played at a place called the post office bar in Dundee with a band that sounded like tangerine dream and another band that sounded like that band that did trumpton riots and elektra who, again, didn't turn up, I think we havn't played with her about 5 times now. Anyway, tartanriot brought their own (relatively) huge pa and soundman who did a pretty good job and who dvd'd our performance. And pretty spectacular it was too (my vocals excepted, which were as flat as usual) with great versions of 'Miro', 'Hope Is How You Control Me' and 'Pre-flyte'(Sheila NOT singing flat), Sheila and Pete chickened out of doing 'Aguilar' so we did 'String Theory' instead. The best part was during the coda of 'Vanilla', I was making a stupid, pointless noise that nobody wanted to hear and whining about how nobody likes me etc. and Pete and Sheila gently, serenely, slipped into Discharge's 'Decontrol', it was beautiful.

Long story short, there was only one copy of the dvd, which was on a tiny little disc, and I accidently wiped it, like a moron. I have issued a fatwa on myself.

On June 3 we were supposed to be playing at Opium in Edinburgh but they quickly worked out that Pete is a clearly a child and sent us on our way. The management and security staff are to be commended on this even-handed and appropriate enforcement of scottish licencing regulations, Peter has been getting away with flouting the law for too long, it's time an example was made. Mark made some new friends, so the evening wasn't a complete wash-out.

Current listening; echo and the bunnymen (heaven up here), tinariwen (amassakoul), simply saucer (cyborgs revisited), flaming lips (transmissions from the satellite heart), stooges (1st), destroy all monsters (bored), deus (pocket revolution)

Selected reading; raise high the roof beam, carpenters - jd salinger (surely he must be due to die so that the max brod's of this world can gain access to his archives and sell them to gullible saps for good money), untold stories - alan bennet, stick/swag - elmore leonard, la confidential - james ellroy, the temple of gold - william goldman, once were warriors - alan duff, post office - charles bukowski, now and then - joseph heller.
